The idea behind a decentralized backup system

Innovative

zobiki introduces an innovative, decentralized process to a safe backup and restore for your wallet keys or any other secrets you need to keep safe  for long term usage. Wallet keys for example, are items that need to be stored long term. You need the key only to restore a wallet when you lose your mobile device for example, or when you change your browser or laptop in the case of a desktop wallet. Sometimes you do not need them for months, or even years, but when you need them you should be able to restore them easily.

No Password

There are many systems such as password management software, which allows you to store your encrypted keys in the cloud, however even if encrypted the full key is still available on the server side. In many cases it is hard to decrypt encrypted data if it is stolen, but if you have the stolen data on your premises and your encryption password is not strong enough, it is fairly easy to decrypt it. Moreover your password needs to reach the cloud service to be able to provide you with your account data, and having the password traveling from your computer to the server side may also pose some security issues. You need to fully trust the provider. To remediate these issues zobiki was built using decentralized data and no passwords.

Decentralzed

Decentralizing the storage solves the issue that no key is present neither in the cloud nor on your side, not even encrypted. This is due to the fact that we use steganography, and an image as a source of data encryption rather than a password. The data stored on the cloud service does not contain anything useful to guess your key, just a bunch of pixels with no direct relationship whatsoever with the key.
On your side you have an image which you can store in any cloud service such as Google cloud, or Apple photo or wherever you wish to store it. The image as well does not reveal anything about your key either. It is just a bunch of pixels that you can even share with other people.

However, because of steganography the pixels stored in the cloud service are related to the image, and when the two datasets are processed together, i.e. the image you provide and the bunch of pixels saved by zobiki, the original key is restored. These operations of extracting the key from the backup of pixels, and the image selected, however happen on your local Browser so no one knows which image you have selected. We will never ask you which image you have selected, and we do not want to know it either! The image is your part of the decentralization process we use to safeguard your keys.

Research has shown that it is much easier to remember an image even after many years than a password. zobiki eliminates the need for passwords and replaces it with an image which safer and more easily encrypts your data.

Privacy

In order to identify you uniquely we use an AI/ML face recognition and a hash of your personal data. In order to preserve privacy, we do not store your personal data, as we only create an hash on your Browser and use that to identify you together with the face recognition algorithms.

The only information we use from you directly is your email since we need to communicate with you the special links to perform the backup and restore functions.
